Report of GFWC Spring Board held in Orlando, May 4-7, 2018

GFWC Woman’s Club of Delray Beach was represented by Julia Gaudio and Deborah Arrigo, who stayed at the Rosen Plaza Hotel.
After checking into the hotel, Julia registered the winning Arts and Crafts pieces from our Delray Beach club. The Convention Standing Rules were explained at the Open Business Session, as well as the appointment of the Election Tellers. Mary Powel, GFWC Florida President, and the Executive Board members were introduced. The Board of Directors’ Reports, as well as reports from many of the GFWC clubs, were presented.
We were introduced to GFWC President-Elect Sharon Opipant and the 2018-2020 Executive Board members. We shared in the Celebration of the Club Anniversaries; many awards were presented to members.
The theme of this year’s Spring Board was “FIESTA.” After voting, we viewed the many Arts and Crafts projects entered for judging. First, Second, and Honorary Participant Awards were presented to the clubs by the Judging Committee.
We attended the “Fiesta” banquet. Awards were presented to the following categories: District Director Award to Sharon Opipant, President-Elect; Outstanding Chairman Award to Dianne Foerster, First Vice President; President’s Project Award to Julia George, Chairman. After dinner, there was a Dueling DIstrict Desperadoes Presentation by District Directors.
Several awards were presented at a Business Meeting on Sunday; i.e., GFWC Photography, Leadership awards, Fundraising awards, Youth Leadership Award.
The Sunday evening Installation Banquet theme was, “Smiles Make the World Go Round.” The Installation of the 2018-2020 GFWC Florida Executive Committee (Sharon Oliphant, President) was followed by a “meet and greet” of the newly-elected officers.
At the Board of Directors meeting on Monday morning, voting for Member-at-Large was held. Two Directors presented their candidates; the election took place and Debbie voted for one of them. Anita Johnston won.
The President’s project for 2018-2020 is, “Smiles Make the World Go Round.”
Julia and Debbie expressed appreciation for being allowed to represent the Delray Beach Woman’s Club. Although there were no workshops to attend. they represented the club at the meetings.
